On the night Jesus was born, an angel announced the birth to shepherds camping in a field near Bethlehem: "Unto you is born this day a Savior which is Christ the Lord" and the heavenly host cried out: "Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace, good will toward men." The shepherds came and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby in the crib. When they returned to the field they glorified and praised God for all they had seen and heard (Luke II).
